Sand Mandala is usually formed by Buddhist monks laying millions of grains of sand in a pattern over a period of days or weeks. Creating a sand mandala is symbolic of cleansing. The construction of a sand mandala is completed by the dismantling and return of the sand to the water.
The design of the sand mandala is based on geometic designs, usually drawn on a flat surface. The purpose of the mandala and the closing ceremony is to consecrate the participants and to ask for continuous healing and health.
